Laura
Scavuzzo Wheeler, originally from eastern Pennsylvania,
earned her B.A. from the University of Virginia
with a double major in English and Italian.
Her M.A. and Ph.D. in English are both from
U.S.C., where she wrote her dissertation on
English Protestant impulses toward external
marking of clothes, character, language, and
faith during the English Renaissance. Before
coming to L.B.C.C. and while pursuing her doctorate,
she taught undergraduates in U.S.C.'s Writing
Program for seven years and helped train incoming
composition instructors. She has been teaching
full-time at LBCC for ten years now in a variety
of courses, including Intro to Shakespeare,
College Grammar, and Intro to Literature as
well as a full complement of composition courses.
Each semester she enjoys working within the
Honors Program and with the many different students
who bring a breadth of experience to the classroom.
She's married and has two small children, to
whom she hopes to impart a love of literature,
as well.
